A shikanja column is a type of shuttering clamp, typically made of mild steel, used in construction to secure the formwork for concrete columns and beams. The term "shikanja" is derived from Hindi and translates to "clamp," which perfectly describes its function as a heavy-duty fastening device.
Holds formwork securely: The primary purpose of a shikanja is to apply inward pressure on the column's formwork (shuttering) to prevent it from moving or separating during the concrete pouring and curing process. Ensures proper shape: By tightly holding the formwork in place, shikanja clamps help ensure that the concrete column or beam sets with a perfect, stable, and straight shape. Prevents concrete leakage: The clamps' strong grip prevents fresh concrete from leaking out of the joints in the formwork. Used for vertical and horizontal structures: Shikanja clamps are suitable for both columns and beams.
